How to Start a Pokémon Master Set Checklist
Decide what your checklist includes before buying the next duplicate. Write the scope down instead of assuming every collector means the same thing by master set.
Choose your scope
Record the expansion and language, then decide which numbered cards, recorded finishes, edition stamps and promotional products you intend to include. Mark unresolved variants as questions rather than silently completing the list.
Start with Base Set
- Open the Base Set card records and check printed collector numbers.
- If your goal includes First Edition, use the separate First Edition filter, not a foil-finish label.
- Open Charizard #4 to inspect the recorded variants. Do not infer that a single displayed scan represents all those printings.
Keep a useful backup
The free My Collection tool stores catalog records and quantities in this browser and exports your own CSV. It does not yet track separate ownership of every physical variant or sync across devices. Maintain any additional variant-specific checklist separately.
CSV imports add quantities for matching IDs. Back up your data and import into an empty checklist when you want to restore a backup without doubling existing quantities.
Make the buying list last
Only after defining the checklist should you compare singles and sealed-product formats. Random packs do not guarantee the card or printing missing from your list.
