Holo vs Reverse Holo: How to Tell the Difference

A foil label is not enough to identify the printing you want. Start with the exact set, collector number and recorded variant, then inspect the physical card.

Use the record as a checklist

Open a card’s printing variants and distinguish the finish from its edition, stamp and language. Do not apply one generic reflective pattern to every expansion. Ask for clear front, back and angled photographs if a seller’s images leave the finish uncertain.

A real catalog example

Base Set Charizard #4 has several recorded printing variants. The edition and finish are separate facts; a similar artwork image does not authenticate every variant. Follow its set link to compare the rest of the checklist.

CatchDex keeps unverified optical effects off. Pointer tilt helps inspect an image; it does not prove a card’s physical foil or the identity of a seller’s item.

Before buying

Write down the exact printing you need, then read the printing, finish and language checklist. Source-provided variant metadata and an individually authenticated physical scan are different things.

My Collection saves catalog records and quantities on this device. It is not a separate per-printing ownership database or cloud account.
